Matthew Detjen

Interpretive Naturalist at Minnesota Zoo

Matthew Detjen is an experienced interpretive naturalist currently employed at the Minnesota Zoo since January 2018, where responsibilities include ambassador animal handling and public engagement, along with providing exhibit maintenance as a certified rescue SCUBA diver. Matthew also serves as an assistant coach for Northfield Public Schools, instructing student athletes and planning conditioning programs. Previous roles include laboratory animal technician at Research Animal Resources, and various positions at the Minnesota Zoo, including ground keeper and intern. Education includes a Master’s degree in Agriculture Education and a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science, both from the University of Minnesota.
