Jacqueline Simon was elected to the Board of Trustees of MiraCosta College in November 2004. She is a resident of Carlsbad representing Area 3, which includes Carlsbad and Encinitas.
As an educator with over 17 years of teaching experience at the community-college level, she brings a unique perspective to the Board. Her educational background involves her directly with many of the issues and challenges facing the community colleges today and gives her insight into the immediate needs of both faculty and students. She believes that MiraCosta’s curriculum policy should strongly comply with academic goals and transfer requirements of four-year institutions so that students will have the opportunity to transfer to any college of their choice. She also advocates that local funding be apportioned to promote expanding educational opportunities.
She holds a Master of Arts degree in Speech from California State University East Bay (formerly called California State University at Hayward) and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from San Jose State University. She currently teaches speech and communication at community colleges within the San Diego and Riverside county districts, along with outreach programs such as the Hill House, continuing education for recently paroled individuals working to better themselves and their futures.
