Gabriela Asturias has had a diverse and accomplished career. Gabriela began their professional journey in 2013 as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at Duke University School of Medicine, working under Dr. Sarah Lisanby and Dr. Gregory Appelbaum. In 2015, they became a Research Intern at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) under Dr. Guohong Cui. The following year, they were a Research Intern at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) under Dr. Sarah Lisanby. In 2016, Gabriela co-founded MiResource and served as the COO. In 2017, they became a PEER Analyst at USAID, part of the Higher Education Solutions Network (HESN) with the Partnership for Enhanced Engagement with Research (PEER) team at the U. S. Global Development Lab. Additionally, Gabriela co-founded Fundación Desarrolla Guatemala (FUNDEGUA) in 2015, where they serve as President. FUNDEGUA's mission is to create a positive impact on people's lives through accessible scientific research, inclusive technology, and innovative solutions.

Gabriela Asturias has an education history that spans from 2001 to 2023. From 2001 to 2013, they attended The Village School and earned an American High School Honors Diploma and a Bachiller en Ciencias y Letras. From 2013 to 2017, they attended Duke University, where they earned a Neuroscience (BS) and a Chemistry (MIN) in Pre-Medicine/Pre-Medical Studies. Finally, from 2018 to 2023, they are attending Stanford University to pursue a Doctor of Medicine - MD in Medicine.
