Chief Civil Deputy County Attorney at Missoula County

Brian West has a diverse work experience in the legal field. Brian is currently the Chief Civil Deputy County Attorney at Missoula County, a position they have held since July 2022. Prior to this role, Brian served as the Deputy County Attorney - Civil for Missoula County from January 2020 to July 2022.

From 2010 to 2020, Brian worked as a Lawyer at West Law Firm, P.C., operating from Billings, Laurel, and Missoula. Their practice experience included areas such as business law, employment law, litigation, intellectual property, and estate planning. Brian provided legal counsel for institutional and organizational entities, offering administrative representation.

Brian also gained experience as the City Attorney for the Town of Stevensville from January 2011 to July 2019. In this role, they provided legal advice to the Mayor and Town Council, covering areas such as employment law, policy drafting and review, budget matters, zoning, contracts, and administrative law.

Before entering private practice, Brian co-founded and managed DP Productions, LLP, a brand management company, from October 2005 to December 2018. Additionally, they worked as a Staff Attorney at the Office of the Public Defender from August 2009 to September 2010, primarily defending individuals in misdemeanor and felony cases.

Brian's early experience includes a legal internship at the Missoula County Attorney's Office and a position as a publications editor at Public Land and Resources Law. Brian also served as a legal intern at West Law Firm, P.C. and as an IES Program Assistant in Beijing.

In 2005, Brian worked as an IPE Student Associate at the University of Puget Sound, where they managed academic outreach programs and advertising.

Brian West earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Foreign Languages (Chinese) and International Political Economy from the University of Puget Sound, where they attended from 2001 to 2005. Brian then pursued a Juris Doctorate degree in Law from The University of Montana School of Law from 2006 to 2009. Additionally, in 2007, they briefly studied Maritime Law at Xiamen University.
