Marcelo Matsmoto has extensive work experience in the financial industry. Marcelo began their career as a Risk Manager at Unibanco S.A. in 1997 and then moved on to Bloomberg LP in 2000 as a Research Analyst. In 2001, they joined WestLB as a Risk Manager and later took on roles as LATAM Structurer & Trader, Head of Corporate Sales, and Solutions Americas. In 2013, Matsmoto joined Mizuho as Head of Sales - Treasury and eventually became the Head of Global Markets Brazil - Managing Director. In this role, they were responsible for representing the bank and overseeing Sales, Trading, ALM, and Economic Strategy.
Marcelo Matsmoto has a strong education history. Marcelo obtained a Master's of Science (Msc) degree in Finance from the London Business School in 2005-2006. Prior to that, they completed an M.B.A. in Finance at the Universidade de São Paulo (USP) in 2001-2002. Marcelo also holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Business from the Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV), which they earned between 1995-1999. In addition to their degrees, Marcelo has pursued additional certifications. Marcelo obtained the CPA-20 certification from ANBIMA in February 2020 and completed the Introduction to ESG certification from the Corporate Finance Institute in 2021.

The name "mizuho (瑞穂)" literally means "abundant rice" in Japanese and "harvest" in the figurative sense. Upon its founding, it was the largest bank in the world by assets.
