Michael Wernick

Michael Wernick is an accomplished professional in public sector management with extensive experience in both advisory and leadership roles. Currently serving as the Jarislowsky Chair in Public Sector Management at the University of Ottawa since July 2022, Wernick also acts as a Senior Strategic Advisor Associate at MNP Digital and operates as a consultant through Kanada Advisory Services. Previously, Wernick held significant positions in the Government of Canada, including Clerk of the Privy Council and Secretary to Cabinet from June 1981 to January 2020, where responsibilities encompassed leading the federal public service and advising senior government officials. Wernick's earlier experience includes key roles in strategic planning and communications at the Privy Council Office and leadership of the Department of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development. Wernick holds a Master’s degree in Economics and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Toronto.
