Burton Hamfelt has a long and varied career in architecture and urban design. Burton began their career in 1991 as a Design Assistant at Bruce Mau Design. From 1993 to 1995, they worked as an Architect at Neutelings Riedijk and Xaveer De Geyter Architects. In 1995, they co-founded S333 Architecture + Urbanism and served as Director until 2009. During this time, they were also a Member of the Advice Committee for the Netherlands Architecture Fund / Stimuleringsfonds voor Architectuur from 2009 to 2018. In 2001, they were an Advisor to the Design Committee for the Committee Buildings and Monuments Municipality Amsterdam. In 2009, they started their own firm, BurtonHamfelt Urban Architecture. In 2018, they became the Supervisor Sluisbuurt for the Municipality of Amsterdam, where they are responsible for supervising the quality of architecture and defining the architectural design guidelines and building envelopes for every building in the Sluisbuurt. Additionally, they are the Owner and co-founder of ModelMe3D, a company that helps cities collect their open data into one central interactive 3d platform. Burton Hamfelt also has Education Experience at Dutch and International Schools of Architecture and Design from 1993 to 2018.
Burton Hamfelt attended the University of Toronto - Innis College from 1985 to 1987, studying Arts and Science. Burton then attended the University of Toronto - Faculty of Architecture Landscape and Design from 1987 to 1991, where they earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree.
