April M. Smith

April M. Smith has over 20 years of experience in the finance and accounting industry. April M. began their career in 1998 at Chesapeake Energy as a staff accountant, eventually advancing to a Revenue Manager/Supervisor/Coordinator/Accountant. In this role, they processed up to $8B annually in revenue distribution, allocated funds, determined tax payables, managed the general ledger (GL), and supervised collections for accounts receivable (AR). Additionally, they assisted with full-cycle recruiting processes and was promoted to oversee a team of 35 associates, leading them in processing more than $600M in monthly revenue accruals.

In 2009, April joined Chesapeake Energy as a Senior Accounting Manager, Regulated Royalty Reporting & Special Projects. In this role, they managed more than $34M annually in regulated royalty valuation and reporting to ONRR and to the states of Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana and Wyoming. April also led a talented 7-member team and partnered extensively with internal divisions to manage projects with a key focus on risk mitigation, cost reduction, reporting, analysis, and divestiture transition management.

In 2018, April joined Modern Energy as a Senior Director, Finance and then as Director of Finance. In these roles, they have been responsible for overseeing the company's revenue distribution and managing financial administration of incoming revenues and up to $10B in annual distributions. April M. also led the integration of financial instruments into the company's revenue processes, policies, and procedures.
