Melissa Ozbek is a seasoned writer with extensive experience in outdoor and travel journalism. Currently serving as a Contributing Writer for Modern Hiker since September 2018, Melissa specializes in detailed hike descriptions that incorporate local history, nature, and dining options. Previous roles include Correspondent at The Mercury News, where Melissa focused on outdoor activities in the Bay Area, and Contributing Writer for Weekend Sherpa, writing about hike features and seasonality. Melissa is also the author of "Moon 75 Great Hikes Seattle," having undertaken research, mapping, and photography for the project. Earlier career experiences include administrative roles in corporate environments such as Esterline Technologies Corporation and IBM, as well as positions in the arts sector with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. Melissa holds a Master’s degree in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from The University of Texas at Austin.
