Mackenzie Nelson is an experienced professional in outreach and volunteer coordination, currently serving as the Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator at Mojave Desert Land Trust since February 2022. Previously, Mackenzie was the Volunteer Program Manager at the same organization and held the position of Desert Institute Assistant at Joshua Tree National Park Association from August 2021 to February 2022. Additional experience includes roles at the YMCA of the East Valley, University of Redlands as a GIS Research Assistant, and various positions in student employment and field management. Mackenzie is pursuing a Master's degree in GIS from the University of Redlands, following a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and Spatial Studies from the same institution. Education also includes a high school diploma from Parker School.

The Mojave Desert Land Trust has conserved over 100,000 acres of prime desert habitat, forever weaving together National Parks, wilderness areas, and wildlife linkage corridors. The organization works closely with a broad range of desert community members and visitors, as well as with local, state, and federal agencies. MDLT offers hands-on learning and volunteer opportunities to residents and visitors of the desert. It collaborates closely with, and is supported by, a diverse range of partner organizations, agencies, neighbors, and visitors who treasure the desert’s unique qualities.
