Ed Verdonk has a diverse work experience in the field of scientific instrumentation. Ed started their career in 1993 at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories where they conducted research and development work in ultrasonic imaging. During their time there, they measured non-linear acoustic propagation in water to characterize a new hydrophone. In 1999, Ed joined Agilent Technologies as a Member Technical Staff and worked until 2002. In 2002, they joined Signature Bioscience as a Systems Engineer, where they were responsible for modeling cellular dielectric behavior and developing an instrument to measure cellular dielectric properties. Ed then moved to MDS Analytical Technologies in 2003 and worked as a Senior Scientist until 2010. At MDS Analytical Technologies, they co-developed the CellKey instrument used for label-free functional cellular assays. Ed'scontributions include specifying instrument subsystems hardware, developing instrument software, and validating prototype instruments. Since 2010, Ed has been working at Molecular Devices as a Senior Scientist and Senior Systems Engineer. Ed has contributed to customizing instruments for specific assays and workflows in High Throughput Screening Labs, as well as designing and improving the IXM Confocal microscope used for cellular imaging in pharmaceutical companies and academic settings.
Ed Verdonk received their Bachelor of Science with Honors in Physics from the University of Alberta from 1982 to 1986. Afterward, they pursued a PhD in Physics at Washington University in St. Louis, completing their degree from 1986 to 1992.
