Sunil Badwe, Ph.D., PMT has over 25 years of experience in the metallurgy field. Sunil began their career in 1995 as an Assistant Manager at Kirloskar Brothers Limited, where they were responsible for the production planning and execution of manufacturing of AlNiCo permanent Magnets (Foundry and Powder Metallurgy). In 1999, they moved to Elpro International Limited Pune as a Senior Engineer, where they conducted research and development of the AlNiCo magnets and characterization of the Alnico magnets. In 2004, they worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, where they conducted research on Aluminum Metal matrix composites and Laser Engineered Net Shaping (LENS) Process. Also in 2004, they worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Nevada, Reno, where they conducted corrosion study of Alloy 22 in heated surface condition in aggressive environments of nuclear waste repository. In 2007, they worked as a Metallurgist at Miller Casting Inc. In 2012, they moved to North American Hoganas as Chief Metallurgist. In 2018, they worked as Chief Metallurgist at 6K, where they were responsible for the development of spherical powders of common alloys such as Ni base (718, 625, HX) and Ti Base (Ti-6Al-4V) alloys using plasma spheroidization, especially for 3D Printing Industry. Sunil also worked on the development of future alloys such as metal ceramics and refractory metals and alloys in spherical powder form for aerospace applications, as well as the development of High Entropy Alloy (HEA) powders on industrial scale using MA and Plasma spheroidization approach, for Additive Manufacturing applications. In 2018, they also worked as Chief Metallurgist at Divergent 3D, where they were responsible for L-PBF metal printing of Aluminum, Nickel and Titanium based alloys, and the design of novel Aluminum alloys, printable with L-PBF and with triaxiality properties for structure creditworthiness. In 2021, they moved to Belmont Metals Inc. as Chief Metallurgist. Currently, they are Vice President, Research and Development- Metallurgy at MolyWorks, a position they have held since 2022.
Sunil Badwe, Ph.D., PMT has an extensive education history. Sunil holds a Ph.D. in Metallurgy and Materials Science from the University of Nevada, Reno. Sunil also holds an MS in Process Metallurgy and a BS in Metallurgy from COEP Technological University. Additionally, they have completed executive education programs at Stanford University Graduate School of Business and MIT Sloan School of Management. Sunil also holds two certifications, a Powder Metallurgy Technologist certification from the Metal Powder Industries Federation obtained in April 2013, and a Lean Manufacturing certification from Villanova University Online Business Programs.
