Peter Oleksik

Media Conservator at MoMA

Peter Oleksik is a Media Conservator who has been working at MoMA since 2011 to conserve the Museum’s vast collection of time-based media, leveraging his extensive knowledge of analog and digital artistic practices. Recent conservation projects include the exhibitions Signals: How Video Transformed the World (2023), Never Alone: Video Games and Other Interactive Design (2022), and the restaging of Shuzo Azuchi Gulliver’s Cinematic Illumination in 2020. Outside of MoMA, Oleksik regularly writes and lectures on topics within time-based media conservation and works with artists such as Fugazi, Sonic Youth, Jem Cohen, and Anita Thacher to preserve and provide access to their media collections. Oleksik received his BA in cinema studies from the University of Southern California and his MA from New York University’s Moving Image Archiving and Preservation (MIAP) program. Since 2011, he has taught in the MIAP program and, later, at NYU’s Institute for Fine Art’s Conservation Center.
