Dr. Gahana Gopal

Dr. Gahana Gopal has a diverse work experience in the field of environmental sustainability and waste management. Dr. Gahana is currently serving as a Senior LCA Analyst at Mondra, a data-driven insights platform that focuses on improving environmental performance in the food system. Prior to this role, they worked at Mondra as an Associate LCA Research Consultant.

Before joining Mondra, Dr. Gopal worked as a Doctoral Fellow at SYMBIOSIS INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY. Their responsibilities included monitoring and evaluating municipal solid waste management in India, analyzing the efficiency of biogas plants, and conducting life cycle assessments of anaerobic digestion plants. Dr. Gahana also worked on a project as a Third-Party Invigilator of Municipal Solid Waste Management in Pune under PMC, where they monitored and compiled data on current waste management practices.

Dr. Gopal also gained experience as a Project Trainee at the National Chemical Laboratory. In this role, they focused on the conversion of renewable feedstocks into value-added chemicals and enhancements of process reactions. Dr. Gahana was involved in catalyst synthesis, esterification, and process calculations.

Dr. Gahana Gopal obtained their Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree in Chemical Engineering from St. Michael College of Engineering and Technology in Madurai from 2008 to 2012. Dr. Gahana then pursued a Master of Technology (MTech) degree in Computer Aided Process Design (Chemical Engineering) from the University of Calicut from 2012 to 2014. Dr. Gopal continued their education at Symbiosis International University from 2015 to 2021, where they earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Engineering, specializing in the area of Solid Waste Management.
