James Prenton

General Counsel at Monozukuri Ventures

James Prenton has a long and varied work experience. James began their career in 1998 as an Associate at Chapin McNitt Shea & Carter, specializing in civil litigation. In 2000, they worked as an Associate at Hillyer & Irwin, advising start-up businesses on general corporate law, mergers, securities, venture investment, intellectual property, licensing, e-commerce, and dispute resolution. James also worked as an Associate at Arter & Hadden, where they specialized in intellectual property portfolio development and protection. In 2002, they joined K&L Gates as a Partner and Japan Practice Leader, advising senior American and Japanese executives of companies in a wide range of industries. In 2006, they took on a secondment as Senior Corporate Counsel at Aristocrat, providing practical, business-oriented legal oversight and strategic guidance for all transactions. From 2017 to 2020, they were Venture Partner and General Counsel at Monozukuri Ventures, where they were responsible for advising Fund general partners and Chief Investment Officer on U.S. portfolio due diligence, investments and exit transactions. James currently serves as Venture Partner and General Counsel at InventumVentures, and is also a Founding Partner of InterFocus Law, LLP.

James Prenton attended San Diego State University from 1989 to 1993, where they obtained a B.A. degree. James then attended Pepperdine Graziadio Business School from 1993 to 1995, where they obtained an M.B.A. degree. Finally, they attended Loyola Law School, Los Angeles from 1995 to 1998, where they obtained a J.D. degree. James also obtained certifications from the State Bar of New York, State Bar of Washington, and State Bar of California in 2018, 2017, and 1998 respectively.
