Vice President Of Development And Alumni Relations, Executive Director Of The Foundation at Montgomery College

Joyce Matthews has a rich and diverse work experience spanning several decades. Joyce started their career as an Admissions Counselor at Thomas Nelson Community College in 1984, and later joined Hagerstown Business College as an Admissions Counselor and Residence Hall Director. In 1987, they became a Residence Life Coordinator at Hagerstown Business College before transitioning to the role of Assistant Director of Student Affairs in 1991. Joyce then joined Penn State University in 1995 as the Director of Recruitment and Admissions, followed by the role of Administrative Fellow from 2000 to 2001. Joyce continued their career at Penn State as the Director of Research and Prospect Tracking (2001-2006), Director of Major Gifts, Smeal College of Business (2006-2009), Interim Director of Development, Smeal College of Business (2009-2010), and Director of Development, Eberly College of Science (2010-2019).

In 2019, Joyce Matthews moved to Montgomery College, where they started as the Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations, Executive Director of the Foundation. In this role, they are responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy, leading the Montgomery College Foundation board of directors, and overseeing the daily operation of the foundation. Joyce closed the first $30+ million campaign in the College's history and consistently exceeds annual fundraising goals. Currently, they serve as the Interim Senior Vice President, Office of Advancement and Community Engagement, overseeing various departments and foundations at Montgomery College.

Joyce Matthews received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations/Journalism from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania in 1983. Joyce later obtained a Master of Education degree in Student Personnel from Penn State University in 1991. In 2001, they obtained a certification in Fund Raising Management from the Center for Philanthropy at Indiana University, The Fund Raising School.
