Andrew Southern

Andrew Southern is currently the Assistant Art Director at Monumental, a position they have held since April of 2022. Prior to that, they worked as an Art Director and Character Artist at Gold Creek LLC from May of 2019 to April of 2022. There, they developed games for top brands such as NickJr, Dreamworks, and Cartoon Network. Andrew also led a 3 person art team and was responsible for creating artwork for new games and game proposals, as well as setting the overall creative look.

Some of Andrew's specific responsibilities included sculpting high-poly 3d characters, creatures, and props in ZBrush; retopologizing high-poly sculpts for animation-friendly geometry; unwrapping UVs for clean texturing of 3d models; painting 2d textures in Substance Painter for high fidelity PBR materials and shading; establishing visual style and creating concept art for characters, animals, creatures, and props; and managing outsource artists. Additionally, they created 3D models and pitched new ideas for multi-million dollar games to clients and potential clients.

Before working at Gold Creek LLC, Andrew was an artist at Hatchlings from September of 2017 to May of 2019.

Andrew Southern has a background in oil painting, character design, and representational art. Andrew holds a B.F.A. in Media Arts and Animation from The Art Institutes and an A.A.S. in Commercial Art from Des Moines Area Community College.
