Jeff Skoll is an entrepreneur devoted to creating a sustainable world of peace and prosperity.

As founder of the Jeff Skoll Group, he created an innovative portfolio of philanthropic and commercial enterprises which includes the Skoll Foundation, Capricorn Investment Group, and Participant.  Each is a distinctive lever for achieving transformational social change.

Jeff is also cofounder of The Rise Fund, a global impact fund investing in entrepreneurial companies driving measurable, positive social and environmental change in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals.  As the first full-time employee and President of eBay, Jeff experienced firsthand the power of combining entrepreneurship, technology, and trust in people.

Jeff was born and raised in Canada where he nurtured his love of hockey and sports.  He has received numerous global honors including the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy, the Stanford Graduate School of Business’ Ernest C. Arbuckle Award, and the S. Roger Horchow Award for Outstanding Public Service by a Private Citizen.  He joined the Giving Pledge in 2010 and was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2012.

Erin has previous experience working as the Senior Manager of Group Sales Planning and as the Manager of Group Sales & Events for both the Washington Mystics and Washington Wizards. Prior to that, they worked as an Account Representative for D&B. Erin has been with [Monumental Sports & Entertainment](/org/monumentalsports) since June 2012.

John Thompson III enters his first season as Monumental Basketball's Vice President of Player Engagement. Thompson brings a vast array of experience to DC, including 13 years (2004-2017) as head coach at iconic [Georgetown University](/org/georgetown-university).

Thompson arrived at Georgetown with a unique pedigree as the son of one Hall of Fame coach and the student of another, having played basketball for the legendary coach Pete Carril as an undergraduate at [Princeton University](/org/princeton). He achieved several coaching milestones, including an NCAA Final Four appearance, two NCAA Sweet-16 appear- ances, three Big East regular season championships and one Big East tournament championship. In his four years as head coach at Princeton, Thompson won three Ivy League championships. Overall, he owns a stellar 346-193 (.641) all-time record and was named Big East Coach of the Year (2013), NABC Coach of the Year (2007) and was a two-time recipient of the Black Coaches Association (BCA) Male Coach of the Year.

Following his tenure at Georgetown, Thompson continued his path as a stalwart in basketball, serving as an analyst for ESPN and an assistant coach for the USA Men’s National Team (where he assisted head coach Jeff Van Gundy as the team qualified for the 2019 FIBA World Cup). He also served on the Commission on College Basketball (established by the NCAA Board of Governors, Division I Board of Directors and the NCAA president and chaired by former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to fully examine critical aspects of Division I men’s basketball) and was the recipient of the 2019 Guardians of the Game Award for Service, presented by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

Off the court, Thompson has been an active member of his community. His greatest contribution was establishing the John Thompson III Foundation in 2007 to create a positive and lasting impact on the city he cherishes, Washington, DC. He currently he serves on the boards of his alma mater, Gonzaga College High School, the NABC and the non-profit, Men Against Breast Cancer.

Jim Van Stone is the President of Business Operations and Chief Commercial Officer overseeing ticket sales and services, corporate partnerships, executive suites, marketing and retail business. Previously Van Stone was [Monumental Sports & Entertainment](/org/monumentalsports)’s Chief Revenue Officer.

Van Stone has played a leading role in a myriad of groundbreaking sponsorship agreements at [Monumental](/org/monumental) including arena naming rights (Capital One), Washington Wizards, Capitals and Mystics practice facility naming rights and medical partnership (MedStar Health), Wizards jersey patch (GEICO), technology platform (Alibaba), and the first international partner for the Wizards (NEC). In October of 2019, Van Stone led negotiations with [William Hill](/org/william-hill) to become the first official sportsbook partner of the Wizards, Capitals and Mystics – the first partnership of its kind in North America.

From a ticketing perspective, [Monumental](/org/monumental) has seen incredible success since Van Stone’s arrival, including a Capitals sellout streak dating back to the 2008-09 season and oversight of several major events including the 2011 and 2015 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic, 2018 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series and 2019 NBA London Game.

Under Van Stone’s guidance, [Capital One](/org/capital-one) Arena underwent a $70 million transformational renovation during the summer of 2018 and 2019, which included the latest in LED video technology, one of the largest 360-degree continuous video screens in sports and modernized concourses, suites and destination lounges throughout the building.

Sheila C. Johnson is an entrepreneur and philanthropist whose accomplishments span the arenas of hospitality, sports, TV/film, the arts and humanitarian causes. Ms. Johnson is CEO of Salamander Hospitality, LLC, overseeing a growing portfolio of luxury properties and lifestyle businesses. She is the only African American woman to have a principal shareholder stake in three professional sports teams: Wizards, Capitals and the 2019 WNBA Champion Washington Mystics, for which she serves as governor. She also served five years on the Executive Committee of the United States Golf Association.  She co-founded WE Capital, supporting and empower female-led enterprises that can advance transformational social change. She also serves on the board of the [Greater Washington Partnership](/org/greater-washington-partnership), focused on strengthening the region’s commerce and innovation.  Ms. Johnson is known as a TV pioneer, having been a founding partner of BET (Black Entertainment Television).

Michelle DiFebo Freeman is the owner and CEO of the Carl M. Freeman Companies, a real estate company which specializes in land acquisition, planning, development, redevelopment, and management.   Ms. Freeman is president and chairman of the Carl M. Freeman Foundation and is the founding chairman of the Joshua M. Freeman Foundation, which honors her late husband.  A founding member of Venture Philanthropy Partners, Ms. Freeman serves on the board of CharityWorks and the Landon School in Bethesda, Md. She has also chaired AfterDark@THEARC in Southeast D.C. for several years and annually participates in Covenant’s House Executive Sleep-Out.   Ms. Freeman is active in YPO, the [Urban Land Institute](/org/urban-land-institute) and the ICSC organization. In 2013 Elle Magazine named Ms. Freeman as one of the 10 Most Influential Women in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Mody also is an associate publisher of Inc. Magazine and is the former chairman and CEO of SIGNAL Corporation.  Mr. Mody is the founder and chairman of The Mody Foundation, whose goal is to provide higher education, health-based and athletics funding for economically disadvantaged inner-city children.  The Mody Foundation has been actively involved in the Washington-area philanthropic community, participating with the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, The Orphan Network, National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Easter Seals. Mr. Mody was a charter member of the Redskins Leadership Council Mr. Mody also is a member of the MSE Foundation board of directors.

Richard D. Fairbank is founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Capital One Financial Corporation, a broadly diversified financial services company ranked 130th on the Fortune 500.  Mr. Fairbank has been recognized for his community and industry leadership, including his 2008 appointment to the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation. He also was honored as a 2008 Washington Business Hall of Fame Laureate and was named 2006 Banker of the Year by the American Banker. Mr. Fairbank has also been recognized as one of the top “100 CEO Leaders In STEM” by STEMconnector in partnership with US News and World Report, the Business-Higher Education Forum and Fortune magazine.

Before that, they were the Director of Marketing for the Oakland Athletics from 1980 to 1984.

Rod Thorn begins his first season as Senior Advisor to the General Manager and brings over 40 years of front office experience. In this role, Thorn will consult with Wizards general manager Tommy Sheppard on decisions, including personnel, free agency and the draft. The former Baltimore Bullet was originally drafted by the franchise with the second overall pick in 1963 NBA Draft and enjoyed a nine-year playing career.

An NBA veteran of more than four decades, Thorn was named the president of the [Philadelphia 76ers](/org/philadelphia-76ers) on August 12, 2010. He spent the past 10 seasons as president of the New Jersey Nets before resigning on July 15, 2010.

Zach Leonsis is Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives for [Monumental Sports & Entertainment](/org/monumentalsports) and General Manager of Monumental Sports Network, a first-of-its-kind regional sports network for digital, mobile and over-the-top platforms.

In 2016, Leonsis led the transformation of Monumental Sports Network – co-owned by [Monumental Sports & Entertainment](/org/monumentalsports) and NBC Sports Group – from an ad-based blogging platform into a direct-to-fan service content provider.

Rebecca Winn has been with [Monumental Sports & Entertainment](/org/monumentalsports) since 2008, starting as Sponsorship Manager for the Washington Mystics. In 2010, they were promoted to Manager of Marketing & Promotions for the Washington Wizards and Mystics. Rebecca was promoted to their current position as Senior Vice President, Marketing in 2012. Prior to their work in the sports industry, Winn worked in facility operations at the [College of William and Mary](/org/college-of-william-and-mary) from 2001 to 2005.

Raul J. Fernandez is an entrepreneur, investor, philanthropist and strategic partner who brings more than two decades of executive experience scaling innovative and rapidly growing technology companies. In addition to his role with [Monumental](/org/monumental), Fernandez is an investor in disruptive companies including [Undercover Colors](/org/undercover-colors), SyncThink, Radius Networks, Cloud9 eSports, Professional Fighters League (MMA) and Snap+Style Business as well as services as a special advisor to a global equity firm, General Atlantic Partners.  He serves on the Board of Kate Spade & Company, AtSite Inc, and [Perfect Sense Digital](/org/perfect-sense-digital).   A native Washingtonian and [University of Maryland](/org/university-of-maryland) graduate, Fernandez an active philanthropist in DC regional nonprofits, focused primarily on educational reform.

The Patrick family name is synonymous with the sport of hockey and the National Hockey League. Lester Patrick’s (grandfather) legacy as longtime coach and general manager of the [New York Rangers](/org/new-york-rangers) is honored with the Lester Patrick Trophy, awarded annually for “outstanding service to hockey in the United States”.  Mr. Patrick himself earned the Trophy in 2012.  Muzz Patrick (father) and Lynn Patrick (uncle) were Stanley Cup Champions with the [New York Rangers](/org/new-york-rangers), and in 2018, Mr. Patrick and Chris (son) became the six and seventh members of the Patrick family to win a Stanley Cup. A part of the [Washington Capitals](/org/washington-capitals) organization since 1982 and one of the original partners of [Monumental](/org/monumental), Mr. Patrick has been a central force in the growth and success of the company.

Brett Greenberg is in his 11th season with the Wizards and his first in his role as Assistant GM/Strategy and Analytics. Greenbergy most recently completed his fourth as Vice President of Basketball Analytics/Salary Cap Management. In his role, Greenberg leads the Wizards’ analytical efforts while assisting with all salary cap and Collective Bargaining Agreement matters.

Prior to his promotion, Greenberg served as basketball operations assistant/video coordinator for the team for two seasons, where he played a vital role in the coaching staff’s preparation by providing video breakdowns of opposing teams and individual players as well as video analysis of the individual strengths and weaknesses of Wizards players. He served as basketball operations assistant/technology during his first two seasons with the organization.

Greenberg came to Washington after spending the 2008-09 season in the basketball operations department for the [Miami Heat](/org/miami-heat) as a video intern. Prior to working for the Heat, he served as a student manager and assistant video coordinator for four years for the Duke men’s basketball team from 2004- 08. Greenberg graduated from [Duke University](/org/duke-university) in 2008 with a degree in Sociology.

A native of Owings Mills, Maryland, Greenberg graduated from [McDonogh School](/org/mcdonogh-school-incorporated) in 2004. While in high school, he worked for the men’s basketball team at [Stevenson University](/org/stevenson-university) (formerly Villa Julie College) for two seasons.

Adam Heintz is currently the SVP of Business Intelligence at [Monumental Sports & Entertainment](/org/monumentalsports). Prior to this, they were President at ONOSYS, a LivingSocial company. Adam has also served as the VP of Marketing and the Senior Director of New & Vertical Businesses at LivingSocial. Before LivingSocial, Adam worked at Orbitz Worldwide as the Senior Analytics/Strategy Manager for Car, Cruise, Insurance, and Event Tickets. Adam started their career at [Accenture](/org/accenture) as a Finance Specialist for Financial Services.

After Adam Heintz obtained their BBA from [Ohio University](/org/ohio-university) in finance, they went on to get their MBA from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business in strategic management, economics, and marketing.

Rick Moreland began their career in sports management at the [University of Maryland](/org/university-of-maryland) Baltimore County, where they served in a variety of roles including acting athletic director, associate AD, and sports information director. In 1988, they joined Washington Sports & Entertainment as senior vice president of sales. In this role, they were responsible for sponsorships, tickets, and premium seating. Rick remained with the company for 22 years, until 2010. In June 2010, Moreland joined [Monumental Sports & Entertainment](/org/monumentalsports) as SVP of executive suites.

Grant Hastings is the Senior Vice President of Monumental Enterprises at [Monumental Sports & Entertainment](/org/monumentalsports). Prior to their current position, Grant was an intern at D.C. United, an MBA student at [Georgetown University](/org/georgetown-university), and an associate financial counselor at [The Colony Group](/org/the-colony-group). In 2009, they were a research associate at Bio-Economic Research Associates where they led the development of a sustainable biofuels lab. Adam Falkson is the Senior Director of Business Intelligence at [Monumental Sports & Entertainment](/org/monumentalsports). Adam has been with the company since September 2011, and in their current role, they oversee BI data science and architecture initiatives. Adam also leads the development and maintenance of proprietary data warehouses and external party warehouse technologies.

In addition to their work at [Monumental Sports & Entertainment](/org/monumentalsports), Adam has also interned at [Unisys](/org/unisys) and worked as a Data Analyst at comScore, Inc. Adam began their career as a Business Systems Analyst/Product Manager at SNL Financial.

Adam is a skilled and experienced professional who has a proven track record of success in developing pricing strategies, analyzing secondary market trends, and implementing operational strategies to maximize revenue growth. Adam is also an expert in building relationships with third-party technology vendors and evaluating new technologies for strategic fit.

Greg Kershaw is the Senior Director of Basketball Operations at [Monumental Sports & Entertainment](/org/monumentalsports). Greg was previously an intern with the Washington Wizards and a paralegal/legal assistant at [Kaye Scholer LLP](/org/kaye-scholer-llp).

Greg began their career in basketball as an intern with the Washington Wizards in September 2009. Greg assisted team executives with day-to-day tasks, updated and managed the scouting report database, provided help with player services, assisted with game day duties, produced player statistical evaluations, researched prospect backgrounds, and acted as a player liaison for the team's Media Day.

In June 2007, Greg began working as a paralegal/legal assistant at [Kaye Scholer LLP](/org/kaye-scholer-llp). Greg supported attorneys by performing legal research, document production, cite checking, project management, court filings, and document/database management.

In their current role as Senior Director of Basketball Operations at [Monumental Sports & Entertainment](/org/monumentalsports), Greg is responsible for overseeing the basketball operations department and working closely with the President of Basketball Operations & General Manager to ensure that all facets of the department are running smoothly. Greg also works closely with the coaching staff on player personnel matters and assists with the team's draft preparations each year.

Jackson Filyo is the Senior Manager of Digital Communications at [Monumental Sports & Entertainment](/org/monumentalsports). Jackson was previously an intern at the [Orlando Magic](/org/orlando-magic), where they contributed to press releases, game notes, publications, game-day programs, and the team’s PR Twitter account. Jackson also assisted with the credentialing process, tracked off-the-court player appearances, and served as the PR representative for multiple community initiatives. Their game day duties included in-arena media set-up, managing active lists, in-game notes and stats, and serving as the primary liaison for visiting team’s PR needs. Jackson also coordinated features on ESPN’s “The Undefeated” and NBATV’s “Inside Stuff.”

Before their time at the [Orlando Magic](/org/orlando-magic), Jackson Filyo was a Communications Assistant at the Southeastern Conference, where they prepared and distributed media materials used by local and national media throughout the 2015 SEC Football Championship and 2016 SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament. Jackson also interned at the Philadelphia 76ers as a Public Relations Intern and at The Masters Golf Tournament as an Assistant Supervisor of the South Village Golf Shop.

Jackson Filyo received a Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations/Image Management from the University of South Carolina-Columbia. Jackson then transferred to King's College to study Mass Communication/Media Studies.

Patrick Duffy is the Senior Vice President of Global Partnerships at [Monumental Sports & Entertainment](/org/monumentalsports). Patrick has over 20 years of experience in corporate sales and marketing partnerships. Prior to joining [Monumental](/org/monumental), they were with the [Tampa Bay Lightning](/org/tampa-bay-lightning) from January 2002 to December 2012, where they served as the Senior Vice President of Corporate Sales and Marketing Partnerships. From January 2001 to December 2001, they were with [Adecco Group](/org/the-adecco-group) as a Corporate Account Manager. Zain worked closely with front office and coaching staff to support and drive analytics-based projects covering a variety of basketball, health, and front office topics. Lorin began their career in customer service as a concierge and guest services representative at the Chesapeake Beach Resort and Spa. Leah Rindler is the Senior Director of Business Intelligence and Email Marketing at [Monumental Sports & Entertainment](/org/monumentalsports). Leah has over three years of experience in data operations, email marketing, and analytical strategy. 

Leah began their career in July 2013 as the Fan Insight and Data Analytics Manager for the Kansas City Chiefs. In this role, they were responsible for the management of the data operations for the club as it relates to data collection, usage, and strategy. This included overseeing the email marketing/database communication calendar, deployment, and analytics. Leah also led the implementation, maintenance, upgrades, and usage strategy of the following systems: the data warehouse, BI tool, database email marketing solution, CRM (Microsoft Dynamics), surveyor, and rewards platform.

ommy Sheppard is in his 28th year of service in the NBA. Sheppard was promoted in November from general manager to President and General Manager of the Wizards. He is responsible for all basketball decisions for the Wizards, the G League’s Capital City Go-Go and the NBA 2K League’s Wizards District Gaming, with the coaching staff, front office, basketball analytics staff and scouts for all teams reporting to him.

Sheppard has earned a reputation as one of the league’s most innovative and creative executives. In his first draft as general manager, he selected Rui Hachimura with the ninth overall pick. Hachimura was selected to the 2019-20 NBA All-Rookie Second Team, becoming the fifth player overall in franchise history to be selected to the team. Sheppard followed that selection in 2020 with Deni Avdija, who was selected as a member of the Rising Stars Challenge alongside Hachimura, although the game was not played due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 18 years in the Wizards’ front office, his role included responsibilities with salary cap management, negotiations, draft preparation and talent evaluation of collegiate athletes and professionals, both domestically and abroad. Sheppard also served an assisting role in the recruitment and evaluation of free agents, statistical evaluation of NBA players, the hiring of coaches and personnel and monitoring the Wizards’ efforts in the NBA’s Player Programs. During his tenure with the team, he has been tasked with organizing the Wizards’ training camp and preseason schedules, overseeing the athletic training, strength training, video, technology and equipment areas for the team, and directing in-arena renovations to areas including the Wizards’ locker room, players’ lounge, family lounge and front offices.

Prior to his arrival in Washington in 2003, Sheppard was a member of the Denver Nuggets organization since 1994, serving as the Nuggets’ Senior Director of Team Services and Player Relations. With Denver, he oversaw all internal and external communications functions and served as the club’s primary spokesperson. He also scouted internationally and evaluated high school, collegiate and minor league talent. For his efforts in Denver and overall contributions to the communications efforts of the NBA, Sheppard was honored with the prestigious Splaver/McHugh “Tribute to Excellence” Award in 2010, which is given annually by the NBA Public Relations Directors’ Association to a current or former member of the NBA public relations family who has demonstrated an outstanding level of performance and service during his or her NBA career.
