More Perfect Union is a communications and public policy nonprofit based in Barcelona. We founded our association to help the EU live up to its values, and to help citizens understand why we need it. By using the same communications approaches businesses use, EU institutions can better explain how, why and what they do to more Europeans in publicly funded projects.

Extreme right-wing populism and authoritarianism are resurgent in Europe and worldwide. European institutions struggle to connect with regular citizens, who know don’t know or don’t see the benefits of the Union on a day-to-day basis. How can we fix this? By bridging the gaps between EU institutions and everyday citizens through direct engagement - specifically by engaging Europeans where they already are - online and off. 

European institutions serve a fundamental purpose in this first-of-its-kind pilot program in values-based global governance. The public servants who dedicate their lives to position the EU as the global leader in so many areas of progressive public policy deserve credit for that. 

Popular youth programs like Erasmus and DiscoverEU provide great early and tangible benefits for participant. They generate goodwill by demonstrating the advantages of our transnational society. 

These initiatives provide excellent templates for programs that executive officials at the European Commission could expand to include citizens of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds. 

Communication activities form an obligatory part of every project in the EU's ecosystem of multibillion-euro, publicly-funded initiatives. These fully budgeted projects represent critically underused channels to reach citizens, directly or otherwise.

MPU works with both EU institutions and project consortium partners to erase the barriers between technical actions that focus on economic growth and competition and social initiatives that advance democracy, diversity and social inclusion. A more holistic system is possible.
