John Smith is a Partner and co-head of the National Security Practice at Morrison Foerster, where responsibilities include advising clients on national security issues across various global regions. Prior experience includes serving as Director and Acting Director of the Office of Foreign Assets Control at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, along with roles at the United Nations and the U.S. Department of Justice. Smith began a legal career as a trial attorney and worked as an associate in prominent law firms before clerking for the U.S. Court of Appeals. Smith holds a Juris Doctor from Columbia Law School and a Bachelor of Science with a double major in Political Science and Journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
