Urmila Venugopalan has a diverse work experience history. In 2006, they began working for IHS Jane's as the Asia Editor & Consultant. Following this, they worked as a South Asia/GCC Consultant for an Independent Consultancy from 2010 to 2012. Urmila then became a Program Manager at the One Earth Future Foundation from 2012 to 2013. After that, they held the position of Senior Director at the Albright Stonebridge Group from 2013 to 2015. From 2015 to 2017, Urmila served as a Senior Advisor & Policy Planning Staff in the Office of the Secretary of State at the U.S. Department of State. Currently, they hold the role of Executive Vice President of Global Operations & Strategy at the Motion Picture Association of America.

Urmila Venugopalan began their education in 1997 at Doha College, where they pursued their GCE 'A' Levels until 1999. Following this, they attended McGill University from 1999 to 2002, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Joint Honors English Literature & History. Urmila's academic journey continued at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) from 2002 to 2003, where they obtained a Master of Science degree in International Relations.
