Putnam was a Partner and Chief Operating Officer of Paulson & Company, Inc. (2007-2016), an investment management firm specializing in global merger arbitrage and event-related strategies with peak AUM of $40 billion. He was responsible for all of the non-investment functions of the firm. Prior to Paulson, he was a Managing Director with Morgan Stanley (1998-2006) where he served as COO of the Firm’s hedge fund business, which he co-founded. Earlier he was COO of the Firm’s private equity and hedge fund-of-funds business, which he also co-founded. He was also Manager of Global Strategy for the Firm’s asset management business. Before Morgan Stanley, Putnam was a manager with Marakon Associates, a consulting firm, where he focused on strategy development and capital structure for large banks and financial services firms. He received his MBA from the Yale University School of Management and his BA in Political Science from Trinity College.
