Rebecca Downs is an experienced museum educator currently employed at George Washington's Mount Vernon since February 2016, where responsibilities include demonstrating agricultural practices and commerce at historical sites. In addition to this role, Rebecca worked briefly as a book seller at Second Story Books & Antiques in July and August 2023. Previous experiences include an internship at the Alexandria Archives and Records Center in early 2022 and serving as a tour guide for Alexandria Colonial Tours from September 2015 to June 2020, providing visitors with historical insights and ghost stories. Rebecca holds a Master of Library & Information Science from the University of Maryland (2020-2022) and a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Wittenberg University (2011-2015), along with diverse responsibilities in sports management during their undergraduate studies.

Mount Vernon
George Washington’s Mount Vernon is the historic home of George and Martha Washington, located 13 miles south of Washington, DC. Guests can see the historic mansion, stately rooms, and outbuildings preserved to the year 1799, the last year of George Washington’s life. Owned and operated by the Mount Vernon Ladies Association, George Washington’s Mount Vernon has been visited by world leaders since its opening to the public in the 1860s . In addition to the mansion, one can visit our beautiful gardens, a working farm engaged in 18th century agriculture, two museums, heritage breed animals, and the most majestic view across the Potomac River. We also welcome guests to dine at our Mount Vernon Inn or grab a meal at our Food Court Pavilion.
