Mountain Watershed Association
Founded in 1994, the mission of MWA is to protect, preserve and restore the Indian Creek and greater Youghiogheny River watersheds located in Pennsylvania's Laurel Highlands region. Our organization is unique in that we pursue on-the-ground restoration of past environmental damages while also advocating to prevent impacts to the watershed primarily caused by continued fossil fuel extraction. We achieve our mission through a variety of initiatives including abandoned mine drainage remediation, water quality monitoring, recreational trail development, educational programming, grassroots organizing, and legal advocacy. We work towards a world where our communities and decision-makers act as if what affects one of us affects all of us, because that’s how watersheds work.
