Vernon B. Meacham is the Assistant Dean of Advancement for the College of
Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) at Virginia Tech, directing fundraising, alumni relations, and communications and marketing for the college. He has been with Virginia Tech since 2005, starting as the director of corporate relations for CALS. Meacham is a native of Blacksburg and has a bachelor’s degree in animal science and a master’s degree in animal nutrition from Virginia Tech. Following graduate school, he joined Wilson Enterprises, a nutritional consulting and animal feed additive manufacturer, as a nutritionist and technical sales representative. While there, he worked with an affiliated company, Agri-Nutrients Technology Group, helping develop a patented process for manufacturing controlled release, granular fertilizers combining synthetic and organic nutrients for the agricultural and consumer markets. Meacham was then hired by the licensee of that technology, Harmony Products, Inc., as plant manager where he oversaw the construction and start-up of the first “Harmony Technology” production facility. During his time with Harmony Products, he rose from plant manager to vice president of operations and technology. In that role he continued with the development of the Harmony Technology, evolving it from a batch to a continuous process. He worked to license the technology both domestically and internationally and was instrumental in the design, start-up, and operation of three continuous process plants, utilizing both poultry manure and biosolids as the base feedstocks.
