Lawton Langford is Chairman and CEO of Municipal Code Corporation (Municode). Municode is the nation’s leading publisher of local government ordinances, is preeminent in designing websites for local governments, and assists in the management of local utility bill presentment and payment. Mr. Langford also serves as Managing Director of MCCi, LLC, a subsidiary of MCC that offers content management software to its predominantly local government client base. The family of companies under the MCC brand serve more than 3,500 cities and counties in 50 states.
Other business interests of Mr. Langford’s have been Premier Bank, which he helped to organize in 1994 and served as Chairman; and Avocare, which is a medical technology company that has invented an automated dispenser of prescription medications and written Health Information Exchange software.
Mr. Langford’s current civic involvement includes teaching a class on “Risk, Reward, Entrepreneurship and Leadership”, serving as a Trustee for the Trinity United Methodist Church and President of the St. Teresa Beach Community Church. Additionally, he has served as Chairman of the Young Presidents Organization, Maclay School Board of Trustees, Tallahassee Community College Board of Trustees, the Seminole Boosters, Inc and the United Way campaign for eight counties; and as director for Tall Timbers Research Station, the Community Foundation of North Florida, FSU’s School of Information Studies Advisory Board and Strozier Library’s Board. Additionally, he participated in Leadership Tallahassee, Class I, and Leadership Florida, Class V.
Two recent awards given to Mr. Langford are the Charles S. Rhyne Lifetime Service award and the inaugural Maclay School Distinguished Alumnus award. The Rhyne award was given by the International Municipal Lawyers Association; Mr. Langford is the only recipient who was not a practicing City Attorney to receive the award.
Mr. Langford’s education began in Tallahassee at Maclay School where he received a diploma in 1975. He attended Vanderbilt University, graduating in 1979 with a double major in Economics and Business Administration. His post-graduate degrees are a Juris Doctor from the FSU College of Law and a Masters of Business Administration from the FSU College of Business, which degrees he received in 1982. In December 2012 Mr. Langford completed an Executive Course of study at Singularity University, where he learned about exponentially advancing technologies.
He has been happily married for 29 years, has a son and a daughter, and is a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church.
