Scrum Coach (Underage) - Voluntary at Munster Rugby

Marcus Horan has a diverse work experience, starting with their role as a Player Development Manager at Rugby Players Ireland since 2016. In this role, they support the entire Munster squad, including fulltime, academy players, and past players, in their career exploration and development, personal development, brand awareness, financial planning, and general wellbeing.

Prior to that, they worked as a Rugby Reporter & Analyst at TG4 from 2013, where they provided live match analysis and interviews with coaches and players. Marcus also had various media work and public speaking engagements from 2010, appearing on national and local radio and television programs, as well as speaking at corporate events and team building days.

In addition, Marcus has experience in property management, where they managed and maintained residential properties in the Limerick area since 2003. Marcus also served as the Vice Chairman of the Board at Learning Hub Limerick, a local charity offering facilities to young children.

Furthermore, Marcus contributed to Munster Rugby as a Scrum Coach (Underage) on a voluntary basis since 2013, focusing on coaching scrummaging techniques and supporting the development of the scrum unit. Marcus also participated in setting up the 123 club run by Munster rugby.

Marcus has lecturing experience at Limerick Institute of Technology, where they worked as a Lecturer from 2017 to 2018 and as a Guest Lecturer in 2017.

Lastly, Marcus served as the Senior Head Coach at Shannon Rugby Football Club from 2015 to 2017, overseeing coaching, selection, and planning preseason training for the 1st and 2nd teams. Marcus also worked on player recruitment from surrounding rugby schools.

Marcus Horan has a diverse education history. Marcus obtained their Level 3 Certificate in Talented Athlete Lifestyle Support from the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme in 2022. In the same year, they completed a Professional Diploma in Strategic HR Management at the Irish Management Institute, focusing on business administration and management.

Prior to that, in 2021, Marcus completed the European Leadership Course at Pro Lead Erasmus Sport, specializing in leadership skills. In 2014 and 2015, they pursued a Master's Degree in Strength & Conditioning at Setanta College LIT, Thurles.

Marcus also holds a BTEC Advanced Diploma in Sports Management from the Mid West Business Institute, which they completed in 2005, and a BTEC Advanced Certificate in Sports Management from the same institute, completed between 2002 and 2004.

Additionally, they have a City & Guilds Certificate in Telecommunications Technician Part 3 from Limerick Institute of Technology, which they obtained between 1997 and 1999. In 1995 and 1997, Marcus earned an NCEA Certificate in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, also from Limerick Institute of Technology.

Finally, their educational journey began with their Leaving Certificate from St. Munchin's College, Corbally, Limerick, completed between 1990 and 1995. Marcus'sLeaving Certificate included subjects like Irish, English, Maths, German, Geography, Applied Maths, and Physics.

In addition to their formal education, Marcus Horan has obtained various certifications, including Ohana Zero Suicide from Ohana ZERO suicide in January 2021, safeTALK from LivingWorks in September 2019, Introduction to Children First from Tusla - Child and Family Agency in February 2018, Motivational Interviewing in Sport Settings from The Academy for Health Coaching in June 2017, and UKAD from UK Anti-Doping in January 2020.
