Gillian Holzer

Conservation Science Assistant at MUSEUM ASSOCIATES

Gillian Holzer has a diverse background in the arts and conservation field. Gillian started their career in 2016 with internships at the Pomona College Museum of Art and the Honnold Library, where they gained experience in collection and conservation work. At the Pomona College Museum of Art, they assisted with the moving, storing, and long-term housing of the collection. Gillian also occasionally worked on conservation projects outside of the Native American Study Center. At the Honnold Library, they processed archival materials and followed national standards and best practices for collections. Gillian also handled and shelved special collections materials with care.

In 2017, Gillian interned at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County in the Conservation Department. During their internship, they proposed and completed treatments on a painted leather trunk and a tourmaline specimen. For the trunk, they consolidated the leather and paint and removed corrosion from the brass fittings. For the tourmaline specimen, they removed it from a plaster jacket and cleaned it through poulticing.

In 2016, Gillian also worked as a Phelps Curatorial Intern at the Williamson Gallery. In this role, they curated two exhibits for show at the Clark Humanities Museum at Scripps College. Gillian conducted research, wrote wall texts, and gave opening speeches for each exhibit. Gillian also conducted an interview with the featured artist.

Most recently, Gillian worked as a Conservation Science Assistant at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) starting in 2019. No end date was provided for this role.

From 2015 to 2019, Gillian Holzer attended Scripps College, where they earned a Bachelor's degree in Art Conservation.
