Dean Peterson has a diverse work experience spanning over several organizations. Dean started their career at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in 1987 as a research scientist. After spending three years managing the Upper Atmospheric Research Program at NASA Headquarters, they joined Antarctica New Zealand in 1998. At Antarctica New Zealand, they held the role of Manager of Science and Information, where they oversaw the strategic direction and selection of Antarctic science for New Zealand. In 2008, they transitioned to the Royal Society of New Zealand as a Senior Manager Research Funding, managing various research schemes, including the Marsden Fund. In 2014, they joined Callaghan Innovation as the Group Manager - National Technology Networks, leading a team focused on technology development programs for New Zealand companies. Dean'smost recent role has been with the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, where they served as the Head of Science, Director Strategy and Performance, and currently holds the position of Director, Collections and Research.
Dean Peterson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Bradley University from 1978 to 1982. Following that, they pursued a PhD in Chemistry at Michigan State University, completing their studies from 1982 to 1987.
