David Cepek

David Cepek is the current Trustee at Muskingum University. David has also worked as the General Manager at Ohio Steel Industries from July 2017 to September 2018. As the General Manager, they were responsible for safety, sales, operations, procurement and quality for a $15 million divisional unit manufacturer of lawn and garden equipment, utility trailers and contractual fabricated parts. David managed a team of three direct reports, an additional four professional staff and forty-five production associates.

During their time at Ohio Steel Industries, they generated consecutive months of operating income through operational efficiencies and cost savings following an inconsistent earnings history in a highly competitive and commoditized retail product market. David also developed product specific sales analysis that identified negative margin SKUs, allowed periodic pricing reviews and supported a negotiated price increase between 14% and 33% with a major big box retailer. In addition, they led sales team through Sandler Sales Foundations Training, shifting approach from features and benefits selling to a method that helps the prospect discover the true pain and offers the appropriate solution. Lastly, they established a daily stand-up meeting between Operations, Sales and Purchasing managers and created tools to identify priorities for the day/week, review safety and divisional metrics and recognize accomplishments, resulting in reduced production line emergency interruptions and improved customer on-time delivery.

David Cepek acquired their Bachelor’s Degree in International Business & Accounting from Muskingum University. Afterward, they pursued and completed their Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business with a focus as a Fisher & Weidler Scholar. David Cepek is also certified by the State of Ohio as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). In addition, they have received certification from SAP in SAP Certified Application Associate - SAP Ariba Supply Chain Collaboration.
