Pernilla Sörme

Technical Program Director at My Green Lab

Pernilla Sörme was born in Sweden but now lives in the UK. At My Green Lab, she serves as the project lead to continually update and improve the My Green Lab Certification Program. She also develops the technical resources and research to support green lab best practices as well as program support in the implementation of the My Green Lab program across the industry. Previous to this she was with AstraZeneca for 19 years. After completing her PhD in Medicinal chemistry at Lund’s University, she worked for more than 10 years in the chemistry labs at AstraZeneca with designing and developing new medicine.

Changing the work into pharmacovigilance, regulatory affairs, and clinical trials area, she then decided to advance within Environmental science and pursued a master’s in environmental risk assessment as combined studies at Linné and Plymouth University. She then took up a position at AstraZeneca's global sustainability function where she, among other things, worked with environmental risk for new medicines and safe discharge for the operations sites but then moved on to work with her true passion for environmental sustainability in the labs. She started up the global green labs project at AstraZeneca and during a four-year period, expanded the project to include all labs in the R&D and PTD sites.
