Gerard Hart

Chief Executive Officer at Disclosure Scotland

Gerard Hart has extensive work experience in the fields of protection services, policy development, and risk management within the Scottish government. Gerard has held various roles, including Chief Executive Officer at Disclosure Scotland since 2020. Prior to this, they served as the Director of Protection Services and Policy for The Scottish Government from 2010 to 2020, where they were responsible for PVG Barring in Scotland and led the policy development for Scotland's disclosure system. Additionally, Gerard has worked as the Acting Deputy Chief Inspector of Social Work Services for Scotland and as an Inspector of Social Work Services, where they implemented a risk-based inspection system and led reviews of the management of dangerous offenders. Gerard also has experience as the Director of Operations and Development at the Risk Management Authority, where they published standards and guidelines for risk assessment of dangerous offenders. Gerard started their career as a Social Worker for a Local Authority and later worked as a Senior Social Worker at Scotland's first private sector prison, HMP Kilmarnock. Gerard also contributed to the Scottish Social Services Data Standards Project, defining data standards for social work services and supporting the implementation of enhanced IT systems for criminal justice services.

Gerard Hart obtained a Bachelor of Arts with Honors degree in Applied Social Studies from the University of the West of Scotland from 1986 to 1990. Gerard then pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work at Glasgow Caledonian University from 1992 to 1994. In 2003, they completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Leadership at Robert Gordon University.
