Aateka Shashank is a data scientist who currently works for MyHEAT. Aateka has also worked as a graduate GIS peer facilitator, board director, scientific assistant, and researcher in the past.

Aateka Shashank has always been interested in the sciences and began their academic journey at Simon Fraser University where they studied religious and ethnic diversity. It was during their time at the university that they became interested in GIS and spatial data analysis. After graduation, they worked as a professional GIS consultant and researcher for Carbon Talks and Embark Sustainability. In these roles, they created and delivered presentations and workshops on topics such as spatial data management, analysis, and appropriate data sources.

Aateka Shashank’s passion for teaching led their to become a graduate GIS peer facilitator at Simon Fraser University. In this role, they created and delivered 14 novel workshops geared towards beginner to advanced level attendees from various disciplinary backgrounds. Aateka also provided professional guidance on spatial analysis, data management, and appropriate data sources to graduate peers and professors from various disciplines.

Aateka Shashank’s work experience has given their a well-rounded skillset that they use in their current role as a data scientist at MyHEAT. In this role, they are responsible for analyzing data to help the company make better decisions. Aateka is also working on developing new ways to visualize data so that it is more accessible to non-technical users.

Aateka Shashank has a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Geography from Simon Fraser University, a Master of Science - MS in Geography from Simon Fraser University, and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in International Development with a minor in Dialogue and a certificate in Spatial Information Systems from Simon Fraser University. Aateka also has certification from The Carpentries in The Carpentries Instructor Training.
