Matt Shabat

Chief Risk Officer at NAIS

Matt Shabat has extensive experience in various roles related to risk management, cybersecurity, and national security. Matt is currently serving as the Chief Risk Officer at Native American Industrial Solutions LLC (NAIS) since March 2020. In addition, they are working as an Adjunct Lecturer in Cybersecurity Governance Frameworks at Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies since May 2020.

Before that, Matt was a member of the Information Security Advisory Group at ISACA from February 2020 to November 2020. From December 2017 to April 2020, they worked as the U.S. Strategy Manager at Glasswall. Prior to that, they served as a Strategist and Performance Manager in the Office of Cybersecurity and Communications at the US Department of Homeland Security from 2008 to December 2017.

Matt also has experience as a Research Fellow at The Project on National Security Reform from December 2006 to July 2008. In this role, they analyzed the interagency system in relation to national security decision-making and execution.

Earlier in their career, Matt worked as an Attorney at Mayer Brown from October 2000 to June 2006.

Matt Shabat earned their Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Stanford University, attending from 1993 to 1997. Matt then pursued a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, where they studied from 1997 to 2000. After a few years, they went on to obtain a Master of Arts degree in Security Policy Studies from The George Washington University, completing the program from 2006 to 2008. In 2015, Matt attended the Harvard Kennedy School for the Senior Executive Fellowship program but did not earn a degree.

In terms of certifications, they obtained several additional qualifications to enhance their expertise. In 2017, they achieved the Certified Information Security Manager® (CISM) certification from ISACA. Additionally, they completed the Malware Fundamentals certification from Cybrary the same year. Most recently, in January 2020, they earned the Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control™ (CRISC) certification from ISACA.
