Torence Powell

President at Napa Valley College

Torence Powell is the current President at Napa Valley College. Prior to this, they served as the Associate Vice Chancellor of Instruction, Workforce and Economic Development at Los Rios Community College District from September 2020 to June 2022. In this role, they provided leadership and oversaw Instructional Services activities across the district, working collaboratively with faculty, classified and management constituency groups to assess and implement policies in areas including curriculum and program development; instructional technology; workforce/economic development; and educational policy. Torence also served as the Executive Secretary for the District Curriculum Coordinating Committee and the Program Placement Council, and was the Executive Sponsor for instructional technology implementation committees, including Highpoint Degree Planner and Ad Astra.

Previously, Powell served as the Vice President of Student Affairs at Solano Community College from July 2015 to August 2020. In this role, they were responsible for all aspects of student services, including admissions and records, counseling and advising, financial aid, EOP&S/CARE, student activities, international education, veterans services, disability support services, and campus police. Torence also served as the lead negotiator for the college's faculty union contract.

Powell has also held positions at Mendocino College, San Joaquin Delta College, and City College of San Francisco. Torence holds a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from California State University, Sacramento and a Master's degree in Educational Administration from California State University, Stanislaus.

Torence Powell has a Doctor of Education from the University of California, Davis - School of Education in Educational Leadership, a Master's from the University of Washington in Urban Planning, an M.Ed from the University of Redlands in Educational Administration, and a Bachelor's from California State University, Los Angeles in Social Science.
