DILBAG MULTANI

Research Director - Plant Genetics at NAPIGEN, INC.

Dilbag Multani has over three decades of experience in plant genetics and research. DILBAG began their career as an Assistant Professor at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, where they bred disease-resistant wheat varieties and gained expertise in tissue culture and chromosome doubling techniques.

DILBAG then worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the International Rice Research Institute, where they developed aneuploids for mapping and centromere location in rice, as well as transferring resistances from wild species to cultivated rice through molecular tagging.

Following this, Dilbag joined the University of Sydney as a Senior Research Fellow and conducted research on cotton cultivars and Verticillium wilt disease. DILBAG fingerprinted Australian cotton cultivars using RAPD markers and molecularly characterized a large number of isolates of the Verticillium dahliae fungus.

Next, they joined the University of Missouri-Columbia as a Research Assistant Professor and led molecular characterization projects on dwarfing stature mutations in corn and sorghum, as well as cloning adult plant resistance against Helminthosporium carbonum in corn. DILBAG also worked on inducing mutations using EMS chemicals.

Dilbag then moved on to DuPont Pioneer, where they held multiple roles. As a Senior Research Associate, they planned and executed laboratory, greenhouse (GH), and field research work to induce and clone mutants. DILBAG also collected and analyzed data and attended professional development events. Later, as a Research Scientist, they conceived new ideas for isolating mutants and cloning candidate genes efficiently for important traits in corn. DILBAG also hired and supervised supporting staff for experiments.

Most recently, Dilbag served as the Research Director - Plant Genetics at NAPIGEN, INC., where they contributed to research in the field of plant genetics.

Throughout their career, Dilbag Multani has conducted extensive research, developed genetic variants, supervised staff, and published numerous scientific articles.

Dilbag Multani pursued their education in a chronological manner, starting with their Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, General from Guru Nanak Dev University, which they completed from 1977 to 1980. DILBAG then continued their studies at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, where they obtained a Master of Science degree in Genetics and Plant Breeding from 1980 to 1983. Dilbag Multani further pursued their academic journey at the same institution, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, and earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Genetics & Plant Breeding from 1983 to 1987.
