Hallie Abarca (Gengl) has extensive experience in space operations and engineering, currently serving as the Deputy Team Chief for Flight Operations and Flight Director for the NISAR Commissioning Phase at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory since May 2012. In previous roles, Abarca has led the Instrument Data System Operations for the Mars 2020 mission and served as a Software Systems Engineer, contributing significantly to various rover missions. Abarca founded and served as Vice-President of the ASU Chapter of Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS-USA), while also holding leadership positions in other organizations focused on space exploration. Abarca's educational background includes a degree in Earth and Space Exploration from Arizona State University, and studies at the University of Southern California.

Formed in 1936, the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory is a federally funded research and development center managed for NASA by the California Institute of Technology (Caltech.)
