Michael Kiper

Michael Kiper is a Software Engineer and Machine Learning Researcher at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory since October 2022, focusing on the Europa Clipper mission. Responsibilities include developing software for command uplink assurance, automating ground data systems, and advancing Mars 2020 rover legacy software. Additionally, Michael works on explainable machine learning for data queries and cloud identification models for the EMIT mission. Previously, during a summer position in 2022, Michael co-authored a paper on applying Random Matrix Theory PCA to hyperspectral data from NASA’s ARIVIS flights, emphasizing the use of intrinsic dimensionality for noise separation. Michael holds a Bachelor's degree in Data Science and Economics from the University of California, Berkeley, completed in August 2022.
