Michael Newcomb

Senior Lead Ui/ux Designer at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory

Michael Newcomb has a diverse work experience spanning different industries. Michael is currently working as a Senior Lead UI/UX Designer at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where they are responsible for implementing human-centered design practices. Michael primarily works on projects related to spacecraft proposals and relay operations between Earth and Mars.

Prior to their current role, Michael worked at Code and Theory, where they held various positions including Associate Experience Strategy Director, Sr. User Experience Designer & Project Lead, and User Experience Designer. Michael worked remotely for this company from October 2017 onwards and has experience in interaction design, product strategy, touch-interface, ten-foot design, and publishing platforms.

In addition, Michael has also worked as a Visiting Assistant Professor and Adjunct Instructor at Pratt Institute Graduate Communications Design, as well as an Adjunct Instructor at New York University. Before that, they worked as a UX/UI Designer at KOUNTERATTACK and as an Interactive Design and Film Production Assistant at hillmancurtis, Inc. Michael also gained experience as a Production Assistant at the Museum of Arts and Design and as an Interactive, Print, and Motion Designer at the Japan Society of New York.

Michael Newcomb completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts and Asian Studies from Bridgewater State University from 2003 to 2007. In 2006, they also pursued Fine Art and Japanese Language studies. Later, from 2009 to 2011, they earned their Master of Science degree in Communications Design from Pratt Institute.
