Christyl Johnson

Deputy Associate Administrator

Christyl Johnson is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in the aerospace sector, notably with NASA. From 1999 to November 2001, Johnson served as Associate Director at NASA Headquarters, overseeing all Exploratory Missions in the Office of Earth Science, and later held the position of Deputy Chief Engineer, managing operations and program integration. Currently, as Deputy Associate Administrator within NASA's Space Technology Mission Directorate since March 2025, Johnson provides executive leadership and strategic direction for Space Technology Programs. Previous roles include Executive Director of the National Science and Technology Council at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy from November 2008 to December 2010 and Deputy Director for Technology & Research Investments at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center from December 2010 to March 2025. Johnson holds a PhD in Systems Engineering from The George Washington University, a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Penn State University, and a Bachelor's degree in Physics from Lincoln University.
