Ed Harmon

Ed Harmon serves as a Board Member for the California Oil Spill and Prevention Technical Advisory Committee at the California Department of Fish and Wildlife since September 2023. Harmon has been with NASA since August 1997, currently holding the position of Science & Mission Operations Manager, overseeing all operational aspects for the NASA SOFIA Airborne Astronomical Observatory. Previous roles include serving on the Board of Directors for both the Scotts Valley Fire District and the Scotts Valley Fire District from June 2018 to July 2024 and December 2018 to November 2022, respectively. Harmon retired from NASA Ames Research Center as the SOFIA Operations Manager & Ombudsman in December 2023 after a long tenure starting in January 2006. Prior to that, a decade was spent as a Systems Engineer at Lockheed Martin from 1996 to 2006. Harmon holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Information Technology from the University of Phoenix, completed between 2001 and 2005.
