Erman Cihan

NASA Docking System Block II Sub-System Engineering Lead

Erman Cihan has extensive experience in mechanical design and engineering, specializing in heat exchangers and thermal systems. Starting with a co-op role as a Mechanical Design Engineer at Ohmstede Ltd. in 2015, Erman interpreted ASME codes and designed shell-and-tube heat exchanger components. Progressing to a Junior Estimator and then a full-time Estimating Engineer, responsibilities included preparing bids and estimating production costs while applying industry standards. At NASA, roles included Internships focused on lithium-ion battery calorimetry and mechanical design, leading to contributions to the Volatiles Investigating Polar Exploration Rover (VIPER) and the Exploration Extravehicular Mobility Unit. Notable achievements also include collaborative proposals for NASA's Deep Space Gateway Module and the design of docking systems. Additionally, experiences at Cook Compression as an Engineering Intern involved prototype testing fixtures and improvements to existing equipment.
