Chairman, Lifetime Surveillance Astronaut Health Board

Josef Schmid is a seasoned medical professional with extensive experience in aerospace medicine. Currently serving as a Crew Surgeon and NASA Flight Surgeon at NASA since February 2001, Josef Schmid has held multiple significant roles, including Deputy Chief at the Johnson Space Center Flight Medicine Clinic and Chairman of the Lifetime Surveillance Astronaut Health Board. In addition to responsibilities at NASA, Josef Schmid is a Clinical Associate Professor and Aerospace Medicine Residency Co-Director at The University of Texas Medical Branch. Previously, Josef Schmid served as a Major General in the US Air Force Reserve, contributing to medical readiness operations and aerospace medicine.
