Barry Stopler

Barry Stopler has a diverse work experience that spans over several companies and industries. Barry is currently serving as the Chief Tax Officer at Nassau since March 2017. Prior to that, they worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers as a Managing Director from October 2016 to March 2017, and at Sutherland as a Senior Counsel from January 2016 to October 2016.

Barry has extensive experience in tax and finance roles, particularly in the insurance sector. At Swiss Re, they held various positions including Managing Director, Head of Global Tax Risk & Legislation from February 2014 to September 2015, and Managing Director, Head of Tax, Global Transactions from May 2008 to February 2014. In these roles, Barry led and directed large-scale global tax teams, provided transactional structuring and tax due diligence, reviewed contracts and financial models, and negotiated contracts for the company's important transactions.

Before joining Swiss Re, Barry worked at Wilton Re as a Tax Director from January 2007 to April 2008, where they managed transactional tax planning and tax compliance for the US holding company and its subsidiaries. Barry also worked at Swiss Re earlier in their career, serving as the Head of Global Mergers & Acquisitions, Taxes from June 2006 to December 2006, and as the Tax Director, North America from July 2000 to July 2006. In these roles, Barry played a key role in leading tax matters for the company's strategic acquisitions and transforming the US tax department into a valued business partner.

Barry's career began at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where they worked as a Senior Manager-Tax from April 1994 to July 2000. Barry started their professional journey as a Tax Attorney at Weil Gotshal and Manges from July 1989 to April 1994.

Barry Stopler began their education at The Bronx High School of Science, where they attended from 1977 to 1981. Following this, they pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics at Binghamton University, from 1981 to 1985. After completing their undergraduate studies, Stopler attended the University at Buffalo School of Law from 1985 to 1988, earning their Juris Doctor (JD) degree. Barry then furthered their legal education at the New York University School of Law, specializing in Tax Law/Taxation, and obtaining a Master of Laws (LL.M) degree from 1988 to 1989.
