Charles Burgis

Charles Burgis is currently a Program Officer at The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, following roles as Associate Program Officer within the same organization since September 2022. Previously, Charles served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Maryland, focusing on nutrient dynamics and stormwater management in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. A doctoral research project at the University of Virginia investigated green infrastructure for urban stormwater management, alongside earlier research efforts related to emerging contaminants and water quality. Professional experience includes environmental engineering roles with Leggette, Brashears & Graham, Inc. Additional educational credentials include a PhD and MS in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Virginia, and a BS in Environmental Chemistry from Bates College.
