Senior Vice President, Strategic Communications at National Apartment Association (Naahq)

Rebecca "Becky" McMahan Sullivan has extensive experience in strategic communications, marketing, and public affairs. Rebecca “Becky” McMahan currently holds the position of Senior Vice President of Strategic Communications at the National Apartment Association since January 2021. In this role, they are responsible for directing all strategic communications efforts, including media relations, internal and external communications, thought leadership, marketing, and branding.

Prior to their current role, Sullivan served as the Senior Vice President of Marketing & Communications at the National Apartment Association from July 2017 to December 2020. Rebecca “Becky” McMahan also held the position of Vice President of Communications and Marketing from June 2013 to July 2017, where they developed and led a highly successful communication department.

Before joining the National Apartment Association, Sullivan worked as the Communications Director at Reconnecting America from February 2010 to May 2013, where they oversaw all communication efforts.

Sullivan also has experience as a Public Affairs Consultant, working with various clients from December 2007 to February 2010. Notably, they served as the interim communications department manager for the National Industries for the Blind, where they handled all communications, public relations, events, graphic design, and marketing collateral needs for the nonprofit.

Prior to their consulting role, Sullivan worked as the Director of Public Affairs at the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities from August 2006 to October 2007.

Rebecca “Becky” McMahan also has experience in the private sector, having worked as the Director of Public and Government Relations at The Mills Corporation from January 2003 to March 2006. In this role, they directed public relations and government relations programs for a shopping center real estate investment trust.

Sullivan's career began at ICSC (International Council of Shopping Centers) in 1991, where they served in various roles, eventually becoming the Vice President of Government Relations. In this role, they managed staff, political contacts, and the political action committee for the government relations division.

Before ICSC, Sullivan worked at The White House and the U.S. Department of Transportation as the Director from June 1986 to May 1991.

Rebecca "Becky" McMahan Sullivan earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Political Science from Kent State University. Additionally, they obtained two certifications: "Having Difficult Conversations: A Guide for Managers" from LinkedIn in December 2022, and "Time Management for Managers" also from LinkedIn in November 2022.
