John Young currently serves as the Vice President of Government Affairs for the National Association of Waterfront Employers (NAWE) since March 2025. Prior to this role, John was Counsel to Commissioner Bentzel at the Federal Maritime Commission from May 2020 to March 2025, where John advised on regulatory issues impacting various maritime stakeholders. John also held the position of Director of Freight and Surface Transportation Policy at the American Association of Port Authorities from June 2014 to May 2020, advocating for substantial funding for the port industry. Earlier, John founded John Young Advocacy, providing project-focused advocacy, and worked as a Senior Associate at CJ Strategies/CJ Lake, LLC, where John successfully positioned a diverse clientele. John’s career included significant legislative experience as a Legislative Director in the U.S. House of Representatives, overseeing major initiatives and committee assignments related to appropriations and infrastructure. John Young holds a BA in English from Roanoke College and has further education from Virginia Commonwealth University.
