Anne Beckett

Director at National Audubon Society

Anne Beckett, of Rio Arriba County New Mexico, is a longstanding Audubon member and served nine years on the board of Audubon New Mexico (now Audubon Southwest), including two years as board chair. In addition to supporting Audubon’s New Mexico state office, the Board-supported efforts of the Randall Davey Audubon Center, the NM Council of Chapters, and four individual chapters.

Anne lives in rural northern New Mexico, in the Chama River watershed on 28 acres in her totally off-the-grid home. She shares the landscape with a variety of birds, elk, deer, bobcat, and other wildlife. As a lifelong Westerner, Anne came to Audubon because of its recognition of the importance of water policy in the protection and preservation of birds and other wildlife. Her association began by developing an idea with Audubon New Mexico to bring together Rio Grande (river) stakeholders from the headwaters to the Gulf of Mexico in the belief that understanding and collaboration provide the best and most effective solutions. This resulted in participants from Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Chihuahua and Coahuila, representing ranchers, farmers, river runners, biologists, ecologists, a Mexican state senator, an ichthyologist, tribal natural resources staff, federal, state and water district employees, and others coming together to share and learn.
