Matthew Finlayson

Matthew Finlayson is an experienced maritime professional currently serving as a Surveyor at the National Cargo Bureau since March 2019, where inspections of hazmat and non-standardized container exports in the Port of LA/LB are conducted. Concurrently, since February 2018, Matthew occupies the role of Third Mate at Crowley, overseeing operations of an articulated tug-barge unit in the US Gulf of Mexico. Additionally, Matthew has held the position of Senior Watch Officer at Sea Trials since March 2015, supervising a watch section in navigation and shiphandling. A member of the Strategic Sealift Readiness Force in the US Navy Reserve since June 2013, Matthew brings a wealth of maritime industry knowledge to the Navy. Previous roles include 3rd Mate and 2nd Mate at Keystone Shipping Co. and 3rd Mate at AET. Matthew earned a Bachelor of Science in Logistics from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in 2013.
