Chuck Hassebrook

Director - Biochar Policy Project at National Center for Appropriate Technology

Chuck Hassebrook has held various roles throughout their career. Chuck is currently the Director of the Biochar Policy Project at the National Center for Appropriate Technology since 2021. Prior to this, they served as the Vice President for Project Development at Sandhills Energy LLC starting in 2015. From 2013 to 2014, they ran as a candidate for Governor under Chuck Hassebrook for Governor. Chuck'slongest tenure was at the Center for Rural Affairs where they served as the Executive Director from 1978 to 2013. During their time there, they became the nation's ninth largest US Small Business Administration micro lender and served 10,000 businesses. Additionally, they served on the University of Nebraska Board of Regents from 1995 to 2012, including two terms as Chair. Chuck was instrumental in initiatives such as securing tuition assistance for students from modest income families and the creation of a Rural Futures Institute.

Chuck Hassebrook studied at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where they pursued a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in University Studies with a focus on rural transformations.
